GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - Gainesville Fire Rescue says a gas leak occurred Wednesday evening and has since been resolved.

At approximately 7:20 p.m., Gainesville Fire Rescue responded to an outside natural gas main near Northwest 64th Place & 37th Street.

Responders immediately secured the area, shutting down the ignition source and conducting air monitoring while the Gainesville Police Department directed traffic.

Some residents in the area received shelter and evacuation guidance as a precaution.

Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) later arrived on scene, made a remote dig, and secured the leak by clamping the line from both sides.

The roadway reopened just before 10:00 p.m. No injuries were reported.
