SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- A recent incident involving a Minnehaha County Sheriff's Dupty cars being crashed into early Wednesday morning is being used as a highlight for state officials to address growing concerns and impacts of recidivism.

During Thusday's police briefing, Minnehaha County Chief Deputy Jeff Gromer said a deputy was parked off the roadway facing east near Highway 38 and Western Avenue in Hartford when a vehicle left the westbound lane, crossed the eastbound lane and struck the deputy's car at a high speed. "It's really hard to express how fortunate we are that the deputy wasn't hurt any worse than he was," Gromer said during briefing.
