SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Wednesday morning’s crash involving a parked Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy and a woman on parole highlights the dangers of recidivism and the need for rehabilitation, according to the office’s Chief Deputy.

Chief Deputy Jeff Gromer said Thursday that a Sheriff’s Deputy was parked in a field approach off of State Highway 38 when he was struck by a vehicle traveling west, crossing both lanes of traffic and off the road.

“As that vehicle approached the Deputy Sheriff, it left its lane of travel, going completely across the oncoming lane, and struck the Deputy’s patrol car with the Deputy sitting in it. I would describe it as a high rate of speed,” Gromer said.
