ATHENS, Pa. (WETM) — An Athens woman was arrested in September after police said she stole thousands of dollars from the Athens American Legion while she served as the legion's treasurer.
Heather Lee Cron, 45, was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 9, on the following charges: • 39 counts of forgery, unauthorized act in writing, a grade two felony. • 39 counts of theft by unlawful taking, a grade three felony. • 39 counts of receiving stolen property, a grade three felony.
Cron's arrest stems from a report to the Athens Borough Police Department back on Feb. 25, when several members from the legion met with officers to discuss a $2,000 check that had been cashed by Cron, the legion's treasurer, but was returned for insufficient funds by the credit union.
