YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) -- The man suspected of killing three Northern York County Regional Police Department detectives had reportedly stalked a family before executing a "brutal ambush" at their home, the county's district attorney said.

Matthew James Ruth, 24, died after shooting five law enforcement offices, killing three, when they entered a property on Haar Road in North Codorus Township. The home belonged to his ex-girlfriend's family. York County District Attorney Tim Barker said Ruth only briefly dated the woman and had never been invited to the property during or after their relationship.

Barker directly cited the "hateful scourge of domestic violence" as a motive in the attack.
