Highline Produce is closing its Wellington mushroom plant, ending the company’s long tenure as a Prince Edward County employer and a customer of local farmers.

The company’s vice-president of human resources, Brian McCarthy, told The Picton Gazette the Conley Road facility will close at the end of 2025.

“We have made the difficult decision to close our facility in Wellington, Ont., as it no longer meets our long-term safety standards and evolving operational needs,” Mr. McCarthy told the newspaper, which reported the company employs 279 people: 29 salaried staff and 252 on contract. Most of the harvest staff are temporary foreign workers, The Gazette reported.
