WASHINGTON — Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, on edge after the assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk, will now have access to a $10,000 monthly stipend to pay for personal security. The pilot program began in July , offering $5,000 to protect lawmakers while they were in their districts for August recess.

“This is about broader security measures to be in place, because it is so imperative that elected officials are out and engaging the community for our democracy to function,” said Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Janesville.
