One of the last decisions of the current city council will be to give the nod to Edmonton’s new chief of police.

A chief reveal is set for noon.

The decision goes before Edmonton city council Friday morning — just under the wire for the current council, with the Oct. 20 election looming, said Ben Henderson, chairman of the Edmonton Police Commission.

“We’re right on our schedule. We had said that we really wanted to try and have a recommendation for this council. And obviously we’re right up to the wire on that, but we knew that this was the wire. The whole schedule was set up to get us to this date and I think we moved fairly quickly,” Henderson said.

If it felt like the search took a long time, those weeks were needed to get a sense of what the community expected of their next chief.
