EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Businesses in Evansville are raising concerns over soaring utility bills from CenterPoint Energy.

BFIT, a gym with four locations across the city, has experienced unprecedented increases in their utility bills.

According to BFIT President Jenny Chumbler, the gym saw a double-digit rise in costs from 2023 to 2025.

"You know, 17% in July and then 27% in August you know, we’re a little nervous about what we’re going to see in the coming months," said Chumbler.

To cover their utility bills each month, BFIT requires 2,000 memberships. The financial pressure has forced the gym to dip into their reserve fund and reconsider their budget for the upcoming year.
