COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Texas A&M University President Mark Welsh will step down from his role Friday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m., Chancellor Glenn Hegar and the university’s Board of Regents announced Wednesday.

Hegar thanked Welsh for his service to both the university and the nation, highlighting his distinguished career as an Air Force pilot and member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as well as his leadership in advancing student success, research growth, and community engagement at Texas A&M.

“President Welsh is a man of honor who has led Texas A&M with selfless dedication,” Hegar said. “We are grateful for his service and contributions. At the same time, we agree that now is the right moment to make a change and to position Texas A&M for continued excellence in the years ahead.”
