WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (WSIL) -- The ongoing drought is leaving fields brown and yellow, with the dry conditions prompting fire officials to urge caution against outdoor burning.
"If you don't have to burn it, just don't burn it," said Shawn Galloway, chief of the Williamson County Fire Protection District. He shared that the conditions are perfect for fires to spread.
On Wednesday, the fire protection district responded to a brush fire north of Johnston City. "I think it was four to five acres," Galloway says. "They contained it with a five-man crew."
