An 8-year-old Milford student was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when a car struck them at a town intersection, according to town officials.

The crash happened at the intersection of Congress and Spruce Streets, according to Milford police . It is unclear at what time the crash occurred, but the police department posted that the intersection was closed as a result of the crash shortly before 4:30 p.m.

The child is a student at Woodland Elementary School, Milford school officials said in a press release . School officials said they have been in contact with the student’s family and Milford police regarding the incident.

A medical helicopter was requested for the injured child, NBC10 Boston reported .
