A months-long closure of a Boston Logan Airport runway could cause flight delays over the next two months, according to Massport.

The closure of runway 9-27 began on Sept. 2 and is set to last for 75 days in total, Massport said in a press release . By Thursday evening, 33% of the day’s flights out of Logan Airport had been delayed, according to a flight tracking website .

"While this runway is closed, there will be an impact on the number of planes that can land and take off at Boston Logan," Massport wrote in the release. “This could cause delays, especially if there are other impacts due to the weather or diversions, among other situations.”

The ongoing closure is the first of two 75-day closures that have been planned to allow for the installation of a “vital” new safety system
