Drivers should expect to see alternating lane closures every night for the next couple months as crews complete a paving project on one of Nashville's busiest thoroughfares.

When driving on State Route 6, people might see the road crews at work and think, "What's that?"

What's the project?

The project will repave distressed areas of State Route 6 at Eighth Avenue, Rosa Parks Boulevard and James Robertson Parkway from Broadway to the bridge over Ellington Parkway.

As part of the Tennessee Department of Transportation's three-year pavement program plan, the work will cause alternating lane closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., TDOT spokesperson Erin Zeigler said.

Zeigler said due to high traffic volumes on weekends, the alternating lane closures will not occur on Friday
