Driver accused of seriously injuring biker, fleeing the scene

HOBART — The driver who fled after striking and seriously injuring a motorcyclist on Monday has been caught and charged, police announced.

The accused was identified by Hobart police as Michael Von Winkiel.

He was charged Thursday with criminal counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or catastrophic injury, driving while suspended resulting in death or catastrophic injury, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in moderate or serious bodily injury, driving while suspended resulting in bodily injury, driving while suspended with a prior conviction within ten years and operating a vehicle without financial responsibility, records show.

Police say the case stems back to Monday when they were called out around 7:40 p.m. to Ind. 51 and Division Street after
