Lightning can't be ruled out as the cause of an attic fire Thursday night, according to a news release from the Jefferson City Fire Department. The fire happened at a home on Rivercrest Drive shortly after 9 p.m. Firefighters reported smoke coming from the roof and upper floor of the two-story home. By the time they got there, all occupants had gotten outside safely. Firefighters found fire in the attic and got it extinguished, though the attic had sustained moderate to heavy damage, the news release said. No injuries were reported. Investigators said the fire was accidental in nature and said lightning couldn't be ruled out as the cause.
