After more than two years, Philadelphia’s MLK Drive Bridge will reopen to pedestrians, cyclists and drivers following a $20 million reconstruction project.
The 700-foot bridge originally opened in 1965 and connected MLK Drive to Philadelphia’s Eakins Oval neighborhood. The bridge along with MLK Drive was then closed to cars during the COVID-19 pandemic but open to cyclists and pedestrians.

When the city planned to reopen the bridge to motorists in 2021, officials discovered part of it was deteriorated and in need of repairs.
