A father has been left permanently paralysed after suffering from a life-changing injury while on holiday.

David Hayes, 37, was placed in an induced coma for three weeks after he sustained a spinal cord injury while diving into the sea in Ibiza on July 11.

The dad is now permanently paralysed from the chest down, with no use of his limbs and will need 24-hour medical care rehabilitation for the rest of his life.

David's tragic accident comes just after his wife, Elly, also received a devastating piece of news that she has Stage 1 breast cancer.

The holiday to Ibiza was booked after she was told of her diagnosis and was meant to occur before she began treatment.
