HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) - The chairwoman of the Public Utilities Regulatory Authority plans to step down.

Marissa Paslick Gillett sent a letter to Gov. Ned Lamont announcing her intention.

Lamont reported on Friday that Gillett will step down effective Oct. 10.

Gillett has served on PURA since 2019, including as chairman.

She faced scrutiny earlier this year over significant increases in customers’ utility bills, notably those under Eversource and United Illuminating.

Earlier this summer, Lamont doubled down on reappointing her for another term.

However, utility companies resisted the reappointment.

Eversource and Avangrid both took legal action against PURA to challenge its rate-setting decisions.
