Federal police repeatedly shoved, hit and used chemical spray on protesters outside Portland’s U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement building in South Portland this week, continuing confrontations that have been happening outside the building since early June.
The use of force by federal police, witnessed on multiple occasions by The Oregonian/OregonLive, occurred despite no obvious physical threat from the protesters, who yelled at and taunted the officers but were nonviolent.
More than a dozen demonstrators have recounted unprovoked attacks by Homeland Security police that left them with massive bruises, chemical burns and lingering pain.
