President Donald Trump says slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk may have changed his unabashed beliefs on hate speech in the wake of his killing. During an interview with Trump Thursday, Fox News reporter Martha MacCallum started to ask Trump about Kirk’s well-known feelings on freedom of speech, when the president interjected with a bold claim.

MacCallum began the question by saying “Charlie said that ‘there’s no such thing as hate speech,’ he obviously, no one anticipated what happened to Charlie” when Trump interrupted.

“He might not be saying that now,” Trump said.
