It looks like the Toronto Blue Jays can clinch a playoff spot tonight after all.

The magic number for Toronto to clinch a playoff berth is three. But some users on X pointed out after Thursday night’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays that because the teams in the mix for a playoff berth are playing each other, there would be guaranteed losses among those clubs.

Major League Baseball, according to Sportsnet’s Dan Shulman, sent out a statement Friday that confirmed the Jays can clinch tonight if Toronto beats the Kansas City Royals and two of the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers lose.

The Jays will try to hold up their end of the bargain with Max Scherzer on the mound tonight to begin a three-game series in Kansas City .
