For University of Winnipeg men’s volleyball coach Chris Voth, simply finding Jackson Abiusi was “serendipitous.”

It’s not every day that a Canadian university coach will find a player who is (a) skilled enough to make a high-level U Sports team and (b) who is so utterly inexperienced and unknown. It’s like finding a diamond in the rough.

“Jackson sent me a message, showed me a couple of clips, and then I started looking into him a little bit more and found out how well he was doing at the college level in B.C.,” explained Voth. “Then I knew that other teams would be looking to scoop him up as quickly as possible, so as soon as I was able to make it happen, I got him signed up with our team.”
