OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - On October 23, 2025, comedy legend Johnny Carson will be honored on what would have been his 100th birthday.

His legacy continues to be felt throughout America.

Carson’s alma mater, the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, is hosting a celebration on his birthday.

First Alert 6’s Maria Cade sat down with comedian and Carson historian, Pat Hazell ahead of the big day.

“He kind of gave me a direction from when I was young,” Hazell said. “I got to watch Johnny Carson and see a master at work. It did set a path for me to pursue my magic and my juggling and my comedy and my story writing.”

Hazell said a career in television was something his folks never knew was possible, until Johnny Carson.
