In a split vote of 4-3, the council declined to approve Mayor Jorge Maldonado’s request to cover travel expenses to Hermosillo, Sonora, where he would meet with the Sonora governor and attend his state of the government address.

During a Sept. 10 special session, the council shared opposing views about the benefit Maldonado’s assistance would have for the city. Councilmembers Anna Parada, Liza Montiel, Esther Melendez-Lopez and Saulo Bonilla voted against covering his travel expenses. ×
