TIVERTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Police and fire crews are wrapping up an unusual week in Tiverton after an explosive device was found at a Main Road business Friday morning.

According to police, nearby residents and businesses were evacuated, and the Rhode Island Fire Marshal's Explosive Operations Division and Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit were called to the scene.

Specialists identified the item as a military projectile, but could not determine if it was inert. It was reportedly removed from the business and taken to an off-site location, where it was detonated.

Police stressed that this discovery has no connection to the armor-piercing shell that was found in a residential garage on Riverside Drive just two days earlier.
