ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The historic high school from “Remember the Titans” celebrated the 25th anniversary of the iconic film’s release on Friday evening in Northern Virginia.

Five years after T.C. Williams High School changed its name to Alexandria City High School , the Titans, the school hosted a “Titans Tailgate” in the gymnasium before a pre-game tribute to the film and a game against John Lewis High School.

The film celebrates the 1971 T.C. Williams team, which went undefeated and won the state title the year it integrated. The story features Denzel Washington as “Coach Boone,” who takes charge of the racially mixed team to bring them together.

The real-life coach Herman Boone died in 2019.
