SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Most of the storm debris from the April and May storms that tore through the Ozarks is cleaned up now. Springfield Public Works (SPS) said they've collected around 39,000 cubic yards of debris.
The debris pickup for Zones 1 and 3 is complete, and crews are focusing efforts on Zones 2 and 4.
"We've been doing this now for well over a month,” said Springfield Public Works assistant director Eric Claussen. “Our folks are definitely getting tired. But every time we're hearing positive feedback from the community, that just helps us go a little bit further.”
The process has been complicated due to dealing with two storms. One of the storms was declared a FEMA emergency, while the other storm was not, Claussen said.
