AYDEN, N.C. (WITN) - Skylight Inn BBQ, founded in 1947, has been named one of the south’s top barbecue joints.

The restaurant has remained under the careful eye of the Jones family, as the pit burns with oak, and the flavors are as deeply rooted as ever.

Now the beloved Ayden location has been named one of the top 10 barbecue restaurants in the South by Southern Living , ranking at number 6.

Whole hogs are cooked over open wood fires, seasoned with salt, cider vinegar, and Texas Pete, then chopped with smoky skin bits mixed in for crunch. Owner Sam Jones says this is good for the whole area, as some customers travel over an hour just to come eat.

“This is good for us, but I look at it as being good for our community, our region, and our state. It’s a win for the team,” Jones said.
