HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hundreds of Kaiser Permanente workers represented by UNITE HERE Local 5 rallied in Mapunapuna, Wailuku and Kona on Friday as they decide whether or not to strike if no deal is reached before their contract expires at the end of the month.
The union represents more than 1,900 Kaiser Permanente workers at 25 clinics across the state, ranging from medical technicians to maintenance workers to schedulers, like Janna Yuen, who has worked for Kaiser for 22 years.
“At the bargaining table, there’s a lot of thinking on the employer’s part and I think we’ve done enough thinking since April and we want to really have a meat and potatoes contract,” Yuen said.
Strike authorization votes are being held across the country by the Alliance of Healthcare Unions for 62,000 work
