COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Springs Utilities is clarifying what their new rate change means for the average customer ahead of the change.

Starting October 1, they will transition to an “Energy Wise” rate, which bills based on the time of day. For example, if you use electricity during their peak period of 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, you will see higher rates than other periods of time.

“And hopefully, it’s encouraging folks to think about the way they use their electricity and be able to shift some of that usage off the peak period of time,” said Tristan Gearhart, the CFO of Colorado Springs Utilities.
