Although this Iowa football formula differed from the norm, the Hawkeyes found their way to a gritty road win to open Big Ten play on Sept. 19.

The Hawkeyes’ 38-28 win at Rutgers in a Friday showdown forced Iowa to keep up early in a rare shootout, then deliver late when things got tight. Overall, quarterback Mark Gronowski and the Hawkeyes offense took a step forward when they desperately needed to.

Per usual, there were noteworthy figures all over the final assessment. Here are five figures that stood out from Iowa’s win.

4 … as in Mark Gronowski became the first Iowa QB with rushing TDs in four straight games since Larry Lawrence in 1968.

None of Gronowski’s three ground scores was more than two yards, but all three finished off crucial drives with no red-zone drama.
