CORNWALL – Monroe-Woodbury survived a last-minute rally by Cornwall, which ended with an incompletion in the end zone on fourth down, to stop the Dragons 7-3 on Friday night.

“That was a great game,” said James Sciarra, coach of Monroe-Woodbury. “It’s high school football. And even though we came in without probably six starters, the kids played tough.”

The Crusaders entered the game without Ethan Maldonado, the junior starting quarterback. James Rodriguez, a senior backup, took the ball and hooked up with Mike Stone for a 23-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter to put the Crusaders up 7-0. Rodriguez completed 10-of-17 passes for 128 yards.

“I knew I did my job,” said Stone, a senior, “and so did the rest of my team.”
