PUHI — About a hundred people started the Peaceful Charlie Kirk Memorial on Friday at the west end of the Kauai Community College entrance at Puhi Road.
Another much smaller group occupied the Kilohana entrance near the gate that closes from 4:30 p.m.
“This is a peaceful vigil,” said Steve Yoder. “Bring your own signs. We support Free Speech, not Hate Speech.”
Among the initial gathering of people that kept growing as people were let out for the weekend, Kauai Community College instructor Gregory Shepherd said he was a quiet protester.
“I’m one of the organizers of today’s peaceful Charlie Kirk memorial,” Shepherd said in an email. “I have twice requested that the executive board of the Kauai Community College Faculty Senate issue a statement re-enshrining freedom of speech and fairnes
