Richlands didn’t just upset Abingdon at Ernie Hicks Stadium on Friday night, the Blue Tornado overwhelmed the Falcons.

Quarterback Andrew Boyd passed for 360 yards and five touchdowns as Richlands recorded a stunning 48-24 non-district football win over AHS.

Richlands (2-2) beat Abingdon for the first time since 2019.

The Falcons had delivered a 56-6 beatdown to the Blues just a year ago, but Richlands scored the first 13 points of Friday’s game to set the tone.

Abingdon (2-2) committed three turnovers and could muster only 53 rushing yards.

“Everyone played well,” said Richlands coach Ronnie Davis. “Thought we did a pretty good job of shutting down the run. … We got some guys down the field and Andrew was able to find them.”
