Oregon and Washington extended the season for Chinook salmon retention on the Columbia River for four more days, it was announced on Wednesday.

Anglers may now retain one adult Chinook as part of a two-salmon daily limit through Sunday (Sept. 21).

As of Monday (Sept. 22), the Columbia will close to all salmon and steelhead fishing until Oct. 1, when it will reopen for coho salmon only,

Even though the fall Chinook run was downsized during a recent Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting, some of the lower Columbia River reaches did not produce as much catch as anticipated, allowing for the additional days.

The river will be open for Chinook retention along its entire length from the Buoy 10 line up to the Highway 395 Bridge in Pasco.
