Wilmington Police have arrested a suspect in a Thursday-afternoon shooting near West 2nd Street and North DuPont Street.

They got a description of a car connected to the shooting while they were investigating at about 2 p.m., police said.

They found the car a short while later, but the driver sped away when officers tried to pull him over.

The cops found the car again near Oak and South Broom Streets, and they arrested 24-year-old Travon Norton after a search turned up a loaded 9-millimeter handgun.

Norton was booked into the Howard Young Prison, charged with first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, 2 counts of possession by a person prohibited, unlawful imprisonment and disregarding a police officer's signal.
