State agents are investigating a Mustang police officer accused of assaulting a man in handcuffs. The officer faces one misdemeanor count of assault and battery.

The alleged officer-involved assault took place last May. The officer was charged 16 months later by the Canadian County District Attorney's office.

It is unclear when the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was given the investigation, but court records show the assault and battery charge was filed on September 3.

The affidavit stated Officer Michael Bobbitt and another officer were at the Mustang Police Department watching a man who was arrested at a motel and transported to the station for public intoxication.
