GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — At around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, emergency responders with the Grand Junction Police Department (GJPD) and Grand Junction Fire Department (GJFD) responded to a report of a vehicle that had crashed into the canal on Horizon Drive near Lakeside Drive.

The vehicle was found to be upside down and submerged under the water.

A female passenger was transported to the hospital by the GJFD for evaluation.

A male was found inside the vehicle once it was recovered from the water and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased will be revealed by the Mesa County Coroner's Office after the appropriate notifications have been made.

There is no additional information about the incident as it remains under investigation.
