MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - Mesa County Search and Rescue had a late night over the weekend as crews helped bring down a person stuck on Mount Garfield.
Search and rescue were notified of the incident around 8 p.m., Saturday. The individual stated that they are not injured, but they were unable to safely descend on their own.
Team members and a UAV were deployed, according to search and rescue. A drone was also used to broadcast a live video feed to all team members through an app. This gave them visuals in real time of the person's position and surrounding terrain.
The individual was found below a 20-to-30-foot vertical rock face on steep and unstable terrain, according to search and rescue. Due to rockfall issues and bad anchor options, a top-down rescue was found to be too hazardous.
