DECATUR, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A child died Friday afternoon after drowning in a recreation pool in Decatur, according to city officials.

Decatur Fire Rescue units responded to the pool at Oakhurst Recreation Center, located at 450 East Lake Dr., just before 4 p.m. for an unresponsive child call. When they arrived, firefighters found pool staff doing CPR on the child.

City officials say the child was taken to a hospital, “where they succumbed to their condition.”

According to officials, the case is being investigated. Officials also announced that the recreation center will be closed until further notice.

“Our thoughts are with the family, loved ones and all those impacted during this difficult time,” the City of Decatur said in a statement.
