The Capital Region has played a huge role in the prestigious NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur Golf Championship — slated for Friday through Sunday at the Country Club of Troy — ever since the inaugural event won by Albany native and local legend Charlie Murphy at Glens Falls Country Club in 1984.

Local clubs have previously hosted the NYS Men’s Mid-Amateur 10 times, including just a year ago when Kyle Downey triumphed at Schuyler Meadows Club. Glens Falls CC, Shaker Ridge CC and Wolferts Roost CC have been hosts twice each, while Normanside CC and McGregor Links CC entertained the elite field once apiece.
