GASTONIA — Guess it was poetic justice for the Ashbrook defense to be on the field in the waning seconds of its Week 5 matchup with South Point, the unit putting the finishing touches on its latest masterpiece.

“We want (to be on the field) with the game on the line,” said Ashbrook defensive coordinator Zeek Bigger. “We got exactly what we wanted, and we delivered.”

After spending the better part of two decades under South Point’s spell, the shoe is suddenly on the other foot for Ashbrook. For the third time in less than a year, the Green Wave took down rival South Point, this time by a 20-14 tally at Ashbrook Stadium on Friday, Sept. 19.
