AMARILLO — Taking down your cross-town rival is always a good feeling.

On Friday night, Palo Duro earned that satisfaction with a 35-14 victory against Amarillo ISD opponent Amarillo High.

The Dons scored first and never trailed, spoiling the Sandies' homecoming and beating AHS in consecutive seasons for the first time in more than 20 years. Anchored by a strong defense and aided by an offense that has put up at least 35 points in three consecutive weeks, Eric Mims Sr.'s team is now 3-1 this season.
