JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) - On Saturday, the community gathered in Cascades Park in Jackson for one cause: to stomp out suicide.

Christina Crouch is the Co-Chair of the Jackson County Suicide Prevention Coalition. She says this event is held annually and aims to reach as many people as possible.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), roughly 1,500 lives were lost in Michigan to suicide in 2022, which is higher than the national average. Also, in the past 20 years, the rate of suicide has increased by more than 34%.

An event like Stomp Out Suicide is about building a community and support system, because everyone has their own story to tell, like Elli Wonch.
