Will Hammond is the future for the Texas Tech football team at quarterback, and on Saturday, Sept. 20, he was more than ready for the present, too, even in front of a hostile crowd on the road.

Coming on in relief of Behren Morton after the starter took a shot to the head , Hammond led the 16th-ranked Red Raiders to 24 points on their last four possessions of a 34-10 victory against No. 18 Utah in Salt Lake City.

Utah (3-1, 0-1 in the Big 12) closed within 13-10 on a Wayshawn Parker touchdown with 10:22 left before a roaring crowd at Rice-Eccles Stadium. Tech (4-0, 1-0) responded with Hammond throwing scoring passes of 24 yards to Terrance Carter Jr. and 21 yards to Reggie Virgil, sandwiched around Cameron Dickey's second TD run of the game, a 24-yarder.
