An opportunist who grabbed a man’s gold chain and crucifix after he was run over by a Green Line train in 2023 will spend at least six months in jail.

A Boston Municipal Court jury convicted Christopher Polanco, 26, of Lowell to one count of larceny under $1,200. He was sentenced to six months in the House of Correction and six months probation.

On May 30, 2023, a 30-year-old man was running late and just missed a Green Line trolley leaving Lechmore platform at North Station at 12:18 a.m. He ran to try to catch it but couldn’t and kicked the trolley. He lost his balance, was struck by the corner of the next trolley, had his shirt caught and was dragged for about 200 feet. He would die from his injuries.
