An area director with the Regional District of Nanaimo is calling for Parksville and Qualicum Beach mayors’ to think long-term about the larger regional needs, after both Oceanside municipalities turned down requests to amalgamate.
Sandwiched between the City of Parksville and the Town of Qualicum Beach lies French Creek, a rural and densely-populated community.
With growing interest among its residents to amalgamate with either the City of Parksville or the Town of Qualicum Beach, the electoral area G director, where French Creek resides, wants to bring in a third party to run a study on the economic, social and long-term factors of if French Creek were to amalgamate.
With a population of roughly 5,000 (2021), it makes up the bulk of the RDN’s electoral area G’s 9,000-populaton (2021 c
