Once upon a time, Florida football and Miami was a storied rivalry.

The two schools played annually from 1938 through 1987, with the winner taking home the Seminole War Canoe Trophy

The in-state rivals, though, have only played eight times since 1987, with two of those matchups coming in bowl games. With the SEC expanding to a nine-game schedule in 2026, chances of the Florida Gators and Miami playing again in the regular season in the foresable future appear even more slim. Florida has its annual in-state rivalry game earmarked with another ACC team, Florida State , which will leave only two out-of-conference slots open in the coming years.
