OREGON, USA — There’s a well-worn adage that goes: “It’s the early bird that catches the worm!” In the great Oregon outdoors, I have discovered the saying also holds true for catching big fish!

It’s a dawn patrol in the middle of a national wonder that takes your breath away. Bill Monroe is lucky to make the Columbia River Gorge his office this time of year.

“I love this place because we are catching salmon in the middle of a mountain range! That is just something, just surrounded by all of this.”

The spectacle of the place is only surpassed by catching Columbia River’s gorge-ous salmon.

As though on cue, guest angler Erik Twilleager’s rod jumped and bowed down to the water surface.

“Don’t stop reelin, Erik,” shouted Monroe. “Don’t pump, just reel!”
